New anti-jetlag policy US Airways

First of all, not one bad word on US Airways. They handeled everything very well today, I even suspect this is their way of helping us not suffering to much of a jetlag. But let's start with the beginning.
I just got my vega lunch, when we heard that some hydraulic system leaked and the plane was not safe enough to travel the Atlantic. So we were to land in Dublin. Some, including me, were already thinking on drinking in pubs. (We did not know that in Ireland on Good Friday there is no such thing as alcohol to be sold!).  We did land, and waited about an hour or so. Not sure for what. It seemed that our plane would leave again in the morning, and we needed a hotel and some rebooking of connecting flights. But again, that was not clear when we were in the queue. After a while one of the US airways girls walked around buzzing that we could just go to the Holiday Inn Express and reschedule or flights ourselves by phone (that's why I think that was what we waiting for: the two girls at the service desk were doing that for us).
Here we are now, in the hotel just back after the final briefing. We indeed will leave at 7 am and all connecting flights are arranged.
However, I did as I was told and rebooked the whole thing. That means I have two options: 1) leave the group, get up a little later than the rest and fly over JFK for arriving at San Diego at 10 pm, or
2) leave with the group at 4:30 am from the hotel, and their stress, and queue again, to arrive earlier in SD and have at least an extra night there.
What shall I do........
I have got about 5 hours to sleep (?) on that.
